In addition to his writing, Michael is a middling musician, writing and performing music as a paltry hobby. As a multi-instrumentalist, Michael composes for the piano, organ, guitar, banjo, and other various instruments. He performs covers of selected works, too, because other musicians/bands are much better at this music stuff.

For some reason, a selection of his recorded works are available as YouTube videos below. Michael can sometimes be caught performing at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Oftentimes he is "shooed" away from the piano with a broom, like a bird.

If you hear his dog barking in the background of some of his recordings, it's because he doesn't know how to remove that and/or how to stop the dog from barking.
